Abstract : As early as 1968, the AGARD Panel recognized the requirement for and the benefits inherent in developing understanding of the interactions between structural loads, load alleviation devices, handling qualities and stability and control. Significant progress has been made to date in assessing the state-of-the-art in frequency response function computation and in recommending future efforts for improving the capability to accurately characterize this critically important airframe response function. Aircraft structural loads arise not only from the more common sources such as maneuvers and landing, and from environmental sources such as gust encounter and taxiing, but are developed and influenced by the handling qualities and stability and control characteristic of the aircraft. The use or absence of a yaw damper, for example, has a marked effect on tail loads in some configurations. To give due consideration to this aspect of structural loads the 'Working Group on Interaction of Handling Qualities, Stability and Control on Structural Loads' was formed. The report presents the findings of this group.
