Abstract : The report presents the results of a study of the groundwater and seepage conditions likely to be produced in the vicinity of explosively formed row craters. The limitations of indirect methods for the determination of the permeability of fallback and rupture zones are evaluated. Analyses of a range of possible groundwater conditions modelled by the finite element method are presented. The shear strength characteristics of fallback and rupture zone materials are briefly considered. The influence of seepage on the stability of crater slopes is discussed. (Modified author abstract)
