Abstract : The air battle simulation described in this report--interceptors on combat air patrol (ICAP)--was developed in the Strategic Studies Program conducted within Project RAND. The simulation was originally intended for use as a means of studying the problems of air defense against long-range reconnaissance aircraft. However, the simulation appears potentially useful as a device for studying air battles that might occur in tactical as well as strategic warfare, although it does not at present contain provisions for all the weapon systems and tactics that might be of interest in tactical warfare scenarios.
