Abstract : The report contains the results of a wastewater survey at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, between 16 and 22 June 1972. Most wastewaters generated at Elmendorf AFB are discharged to the sanitary sewerage system for treatment by the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Sewage treatment system. This system provides primary treatment. There was visual evidence of oil contaminated waters having entered the storm drainage system. This portion of the storm drainage system discharges into a swampy area which drains into Ship Creek. During the survey a visible oil film was present at the outfall in the swamp. The 6981st Security Group is serviced by an aerated lagoon to handle the wastes generated by the assigned personnel. Recommendations were made regarding storage and disposal of waste lubricating oils, fuels and solvents. A sampling and analyses program was outlined so that compliance with applicable water quality standards could be demonstrated.
