Abstract : The paper represents a first attempt to catch the significative correlations between chemico-physical parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, reactive phosphate, dissolved oxygen, BOD5, hydrogen sulphide, silicate, total alcalinity, salinity, temperature and pH) and bacterial data. The research was undertaken in the Naples area where different kinds of waste effluents are available, being the great domestic sewage of cuma, the variously polluted Sarno river and others. The results, beside allowing a satisfactory correlation between data, confirm the usefulness of a strict collaboration among different scientific fields to monitoring the marine pollution.
