Abstract : Theoretical analysis for determination of transient surface temperature and heat flux as measured by an embedded thermocouple in a hollow cylinder is given for the Fourier modulus less than 0.01. This solution is presented as a single series in which only the coefficients of the series depend on the experiment; specifically, the temperature response measured by a thermocouple. The solution may be used to predict surface heat flux and temperature distribution of gun barrels or any other highly transient cyclical thermal device by means of a temperature probe which can be positioned remote from the surface.
