Abstract : Research and development efforts aimed at improving short range forecasts of weather elements important for aviation interests are described. An objective forecasting system designed to supplement the twelve-hour cycle at The National Meteorological Center (NMC) was modified to give better short range numerical forecasts of sea-level pressure and precipitation. Also added was an analysis-advection scheme that directly provides short range estimates of aviation weather elements.
