Abstract : The unique capabilities of the Berkeley rapid-scan spectrometer have been applied to the study of a number of gaseous free radicals and the chemical laser frontier has been expanded. Most of the research effort has been directed toward the discovery of new chemical lasers, to the understanding of their operation, and to the extraction of reaction kinetic information from them. These kinetic studies are revealing the temperature dependence of vibrational excitation of reaction products, information not presently accessible by other experimental techniques.
