Abstract : The research program was to investigate wave-mechanical effects in superconducting thin-film micro-circuits. Solutions of the Ginzburg-Landau equations for a one dimensional weak line were obtained. Techniques were developed to fabricate weak links in which two dimensions could be controlled in the sub-micron region. A superconducting zero frequency inductance bridge was developed which permits the quantum-phase difference across a superconductor to be measured as a function of the current. This bridge was used to measure the kinetic inductance of superconducting Al thin-film meander lines and can measure an inductance of 10 to the minus 7th power H to one part in 1000 to 10,000 with a current of 0.00001 A. With a slight redesign of the input circuit the current quantum-phase relation of superconducting weak links should be measurable with a dc current. (Author)
