Abstract : A major problem in the analysis of data communication networks has been that of error detection and measurement in an on-line environment. In a store and forward message switching setting the problem is to evaluate batches of messages for errors in order to do retransmission. This problem was motivated by a problem in a process control setting. Technically this can be viewed in terms of a random variable denoting error with an unknown set of parameters. A new approach is developed for sequential determining tolerance intervals. These are contrasted to classical and compound decision process methods.
