Abstract : The completely integrated reference instrumentation system (CIRIS) system at Holloman Air Force Base provides a highly precise reference for the flight testing of navigation and guidance systems. CIRIS subsystems include an inertial navigation system (INS), a Doppler velocity sensor, and a precision ranging system. This report evaluates the effect of the deployment of the transponders of the precision ranging system on CIRIS position/velocity/attitude accuracy and on the estimation of sources of error in an INS under test. Position accuracy with basic two and three transponder deployments is explored with a simple position fix error analysis. Position/velocity/attitude accuracy for a variety of multi-transponder deployments is evaluated using the CIRIS post-flight processor on simulated CIRIS flight data.
