Abstract : A two-volume report documents the Phase 3 effort for the integrated engine instrument system (IEIS). IEIS is a computer-driven display and processing instrumentation system concerned with monitoring the aircraft engine's conditions in response to the anticipated needs of flight crew and maintenance personnel in the 1980-85 timeframe. Volume 1 covers engine analysis, including such topics as assumptions, subsonic missions, gas path, mechanical measurement, airborne computer operations, diagnostics, data recording, maintenance indication, fault isolation, gross thrust factor, airborne display, recommendations, and long term trending. Next, system design is discussed, involving requirements, vibration and temperature monitoring, data transmission, software and hardware, costs, program time and routines, reliability, recording, and an introduction to functions performed.
