Abstract : Research extending plasma injection techniques for ground simulation of the ionized wakes of re-entry vehicles is reported. In the technique reported a blunt cone model is mounted in a conventional continuous M=4 wind tunnel with a support pylon. Plasma injected from an arc jet located in the model nose flows over the model and forms an ionized wake in the wind tunnel flow. Operating over the altitude range from 100,000 to 140,000 feet, impact pressure and electron density profiles of the ionized wake were obtained. (Modified author abstract)
