Abstract : The report summarizes in the form of abstracts results of 11 faculty members of the Materials Research Laboratory of The University of Chicago. The theoretical and experimental research effort concentrated on the understanding of electronically excited atoms and molecules and on the detailed dynamics of collision processes between atoms and/or molecules. New results are presented on photochemical reactions, intramolecular and intermolecular energy transfer, intermolecular potentials, and the energy distribution in exothermic chemical reactions. New experimental methods employed include beam-foil spectroscopy, microwave-optical double resonance, crossed molecular beams with angular and velocity distribution analysis of reaction products and analysis of their rotational and vibrational states. A list of 86 scientific papers on this research is included. (Author)
