Abstract : The paper shows the procedure in the development of a test statistic which will determine the sample size required to estimate the parameter of the exponential distribution. The paper assumes that the time-to-failure data is from life testing without replacement. An estimator is developed by regression, by fitting the time-to-failure data to a theoretical cumulative distribution. A computer simulation is performed which shows the calculation of the test statistic and evaluates the estimator developed in the paper. (Author)
