Abstract : The paper shows the procedure in the development of a test statistic which will determine the sample size required to estimate the parameter of the exponential distribution. The paper assumes that the timetofailure data is from life testing without replacement. An estimator is developed by regression, by fitting the timetofailure data to a theoretical cumulative distribution. A computer simulation is performed which shows the calculation of the test statistic and evaluates the estimator developed in the paper. (Author)
