Abstract : The authors determined the content of immunoglobulins by Fahey's method (IgG, IgA, IgM) in the blood serum of children aged from 3 to 5 years suffering from chronic tonsillitis before and after tonsillectomy, and again in five months. Patients (30 in all) without any intercurrent diseases with a marked clinical form of chronic tonsillitis and without any associated affections were chosen for this investigation. Immunoglobulin level was also examined in the group of healthy children of the same age (25 persons). The immunoglobulin level proved to be unchanged in children suffering from chronic tonsillitis. But after tonsillectomy the IgA level became 2-3 times less and IgG fell too, although to a lesser degree. These data should be taken into consideration in choosing the therapeutic method in chronic tonsillitis.
