Abstract : The report deals with recent advances which have been made in the testing of precision inertial gyroscopes. The basic phases which are involved in any inertial sensor test are reviewed. These are environment, excitation, monitor and evaluation. Those factors which must be considered in each of these phases to successfully conduct precise gyro tests are discussed. Many new techniques which have been considered or have already been applied to known gyro testing problems are described. The base motion environment, computer-controlled test operation, data acquisition, and data handling problems are emphasized.
