Abstract : Samples of aluminum of varying degrees of purity (99.9 and 99.99%) were irradiated with 2.3 MeV electrons at room temperature. The irradiation rate was 1 x 10 to the 14th power electron/sq cm x sec and the dose range (2.5-7.2) x 10 to the 18th power electron/sq cm. Tensile strength testing of the irradiated samples showed a noticeable change in mechanical properties of the aluminum (99.9%). This change is connected with the discovery of accumulations of point defects in these samples, which were effective stops to movement of dislocations.
