Abstract : Optical Fourier transforming systems are generally realized through the use of a single spherical lens with input and output planes being two focal lengths apart. This achieves the appropriate Fourier transform kernel and the minimum phase error. In this paper the authors show an alternate setup that used two spherical lenses in the input and output planes and none in the middle. This system is one-half the overall length and has the same minimization of phase error. (Author)
