Abstract : Control variable simulation is used to aid the evaluation of reliabilities of multi-input systems. Requiring only mild conditions on the mathematical functions, improved estimates of the statistical distribution functions (and thus the reliabilities) can be produced. It should be noted that control variable simulation is an application of post-stratification sampling procedures. The small variations and accuracies attained in the examples attest to the applicability of this technique to system reliability evaluation, with more general and widely varied problems being vulnerable to attack in a similar manner.
