Abstract : The study of error correcting coding on channels with memory is important from a practical standpoint because the majority of all real channels are not memoryless. Three different new approaches of achieving efficient error correcting coding on three different types of channels with memory is investigated in this reprot. Since in many channels the errors occur in the form of low density bursts, a procedure for constructing a new class of block codes which correct multiple low density bursts is presented. Furthermore this class of codes is majority logic decodable and hence can be simply implemented. (Modified author abstract)
