Abstract : The integrity of structures that must operate in hostile environments depends on both the resistance to the propagation of cracks and the resistance to fracture of the structural material. Design procedures established to assure structural integrity are intended to enable designers systematically to take account of applicable parameters and their relation to various structures. The three-part Ratio Analysis Diagram (RAD) system was developed to provide an analysis technique for ascertaining the significance of fracture, stress-corrosion cracking, and sustained-load cracking in terms of the relationships of critical stress level to flaw size.
