Abstract : Recently, aerodynamic properties were to be formulated for a substance which occurs in the form of cylinders a few micrometers in diameter and 10 to 14 mm long (after dissemination), vastly larger than the spherical bodies 5 micrometers in diameter that represent the approximate upper limit of particles with quasi-gaseous characteristics for modeling purposes. A model was, therefore, selected and modified for these fibers and empirically validated. However, conduct of the field portion of the program was contingent upon development of a suitable fiber disseminator, procedure for establishing source strengths, quantitative sampling device for airborne fibers, fallout sampler, and assay methodology. Requisite technology performed in the crash program is outlined in this report, along with results.
