Abstract : Countour boundaries and transition areas provide the greatest amount of information to the eye in the interpretation of photo images; this principle can be applied to the mapping of vegetation by aerial photography. The article discusses a variety of morphographic landform classifications, their relation to geobotanical interpretation, and means and methods for gathering and processing statistical information from aerial photographs. The value of statistical methods in simplifying field work is stressed.
