Abstract : A final report of effort on a comprehensive research program on atomic and molecular collision processes, in which the microscopic aspects of various collision events are studied both from the theoretical and experimental points of view, is described. Particular emphasis is placed on the manner in which these processes determine the macroscopic properties of gases; e.g., the transport properties of gases at high temperature, and the manner in which energetic radiation interacts with matter. A report on the progress on each of the six research tasks comprising a unified program based on experimental methods using atomic, ionic, and molecular beam methods and on the use of many-body perturbation theory and atomic interaction potentials for the calculation of atomic and molecular properties, scattering cross sections and transport properties of high temperature gases, is presented.
