Abstract : The accuracy, reliability and range of coverage of the New York Decca Navigator chain was investigated by the U. S. Coast Guard using a Decca Navigator Mark 5 receiver installed aboard the USCGC TAMAROA (WATF-166). The system accuracy was found to be accurately described by the contours published by the Decca Navigator Company. The maximum usable range was considered to be less than 200 miles instead of the predicted 240 miles. The orientation of the New York Decca chain was considered poor for marine coverage afforded offers essentially no improvement over that attainable from existing radio navigation techniques available in the New York area.
