Abstract : The feasibility and versatility of using microcomputers to control industrial processes is shown in this work. For this purpose, a set of simulation programs were written in APL. These program modules represent a microcomputer, an assembler, and a text editor. As an example of an industrial process a simple drill press was chosen as the device to be controlled by the microcomputer system. An APL program module was also written to simulate the functions of this device. The microcomputer in this system offers control and computational capabilities. This is shown to be desirable in a 'job-shop' environment, where orders are received to process different kinds of jobs with unique specifications. (Modified author abstract)
