Abstract : Means are known for burning fuel-air mixtures in a dual-cavity combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine with external mixture formation by feeding the mixture from the primary chamber into a secondary chamber through a connecting passage and igniting the charge from the primary chamber charge flame. The proposed means differ from the known techniques in that the primary chamber charge is ignited in a zone directly adjacent to the mouth of the passage and the combustion products formed in the secondary chamber are directed tangentially to at least one surface of the primary chamber.
