Abstract : The execution of computer programs in modern multiprogrammed environments must be frequently interrupted for reference to information stored in different levels of memory. It follows that the manner in which programs reference stored information is of primary importance in the evaluation of computer performance. This paper describes a study of some of the characteristics of program referencing patterns.
