Abstract : While there has been a plethora of articles on planning and control systems for hospitals, none have adequately considered the entire hospital as a holistic system. This paper attempts to analyze what general features are desirable in a planning and control system for hospital use, what specific models are available, under what circumstances they would be applicable, what models are not available, and what are the major issues of implementation. It presents a new taxonomy of hospital systems and a hierarchical framework for such systems. (Author)
