Abstract : A study was undertaken to develop a graphical method for designing shock isolators for the Sentinel 25F Radioisotope Power Generator (RPG). A mathematical model of the RPG was developed empirically from vibration-response data and used to predict the shock response of internal components. A simply supported, steel, circular plate was studied theoretically to determine its effectiveness in descreasing the input to the RPG during shock. The plate was considered structurally and dynamically representative of shock isolators that could be incorporated into systems using the RPG. A simple graphical method was developed to determine suitable shock-isolator designs. These design curves were substantiated by testing a structural model of the RPG attached to a plate isolator.
