Abstract : In the course of development of a full frame nonscanning all-electronic bolometric image converting tube, a high quality infrared optical system was needed for its test and evaluation. A lens system was computer-designed and optimized, based on a previously developed design used for development of another military thermal image sensor. The fabricated lens systems consists of three multilayer antireflection coated germanium elements and one cesium iodide element. It operates in the 8 to 14 micron wavelength region with a focal ratio of 0.75, focal length of 100 mm, and a flat focal plane of about 30 mm diameter with a minimum resolution of 10 1p/mm at 10% modution.
