Abstract : A graphics system is described for the generation and manipulation of data structures representing threedimensional colored solid forms. A data structure for the system is described which allows realtime vector display and nearly realtime color scan display of the image constructs. A command structure and the basic data structure manipulating algorithms are presented which allow realization of a variety of possible language options. The hardware environment for the color image generation is described at the conceptual level with the necessary algorithms and memories discussed in terms of the system requirements and constraints. Material is given demonstrating the application of the system to simulation problems involving threedimensional masses. The data structure and basic structure manipulating algorithms are based purely on the representation of threedimensional solid forms bounded by colored polygons which describe the surface of the solid in threespace.
