Abstract : The design of water quality surveys is being investigated by an interdisciplinary team using systems analysis techniques. This investigation seeks to provide an information management system. Each principal process associated with munitions manufacture is modeled to provide a pollutant load as a function of production level. Process models, combined with a topological model of the plant site and resources available for measurement, sampling, and analysis defines the feasible monitoring schemes and gives an indication of performance and utilization of resources. Attention has been given to identifying and implementing methods of data acquisition, data-logging, and data communications. The second year's work reported on her involved: the creation of a library of processes sufficient to describe six different types of munitions manufacturing plants; changes in the process model to allow for differences in plants; collection of data for refinement of resource and topology models; improved user-model interface; demonstration of survey planning program on two sites; development and demonstration of data handling software; documentation and workshops.
