Abstract : Bound-continuum lasers in the vacuum ultraviolet are discussed, and criteria are developed for their realization. Furthermore, the possibility of a new CW laser in the vacuum ultraviolet (1550A) from H2, HD and D2 is investigated. It is pointed out that in a two temperature, continuously operating discharge, this laser is highly feasible.
