Abstract : When a body flying at supersonic speed approaches a liquid droplet, before impinging at the stagnation point the latter is exposed to the flow field in front of the body. The aerodynamic forces acting on the droplet reduce its impact velocity and also change its shape. Based on a suitable model, formulas for the rate of erosion at the stagnation point during the impact are derived in terms of dimensionless quantities describing the flight conditions. (Author)
