Abstract : The recrystallization process in the two phase alpha + beta-titanium alloy TiAl6V4 has been investigated with cold-rolled specimens of different degrees of 10, 20, 30, 60 and 80% reduction using light and electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Recrystallization diagrams for the alpha- and beta-phases are presented. The results show that the initiation of recrystallization, compared with commercially pure titanium, is shifted to higher temperatures by about 50 to 90C. This is due to the dissolved aluminium- and vanadium-concentrations of the alpha-matrix; the recrystallization nucleation is not hindered by the beta-phase. The beta-phase hinders the grain growth in the further process of recrystallization, particularly in the final stage. (Author)
