Abstract : Ofosu (1973) proposed a procedure for selecting the population with the largest mean from several normal populations with unknown variances. Ofosu claimed that his procedure guaranteed a certain probability requirement given by an equation of that paper, and based his claim on his Theorem 1 (p. 118). However, the 'proof' of this theorem contains a critical statement which is unsubstantiated in the paper, and which in fact may be incorrect; it also contains a statement which is in error. These may invalidate his basic result. The statements are described and commented on below.
