Abstract : The purpose of this program is to develop thermal-shock-resistant composite carbides that can be reliably used with high-flame-temperature solid rocket propellants. During the first quarter, composition and fabrication variables necessary to optimize a tantalum/hafnium monocarbide microcomposite structure were investigated. A hot-press fabrication technique was used. (Author)
