Abstract : A theory is developed for the motion of a spinning shell subjected to an overturning moment only, all other elements of the force system, gravity, drag, cross wind force, etc., being neglected. However, the treatment is general in one respect, no specific assumption is made concerning the dependence of overturning moment on yaw. The results may be useful in computing the windage jump of bullets fired sidewise from airplanes and perhaps as starting point for the development of a general theory of the motion valid for large yaws.
