Abstract : At the request of the XQ-5 Project, a heat transfer study was made of the aft fuselage section. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the effects on the explosive charge contained in the drag chute pin puller from radiant heat from the engine, and conducted heat from aerodynamic heating of the skin. Self-ignition temperatures were determined, and the time required for the structure to obtain this temperature was determined by subjecting the tail section to several high temperature conditions.
