Abstract : Job request 35-1-M3 rev.0 and rev.1 directed Santa Cruz Test Base to develop a helium line guillotine cutter mechanism. The device (now LMSD 1301005, Figure no. 2) is constructed of heat treated chrome-moly steel and weighs approximately 500 grams including two M51 squibs. These units performed satisfactorily in qualification tests and on installation tests. This device (LMSD 1301005) will sever the helium line tee fitting in a satisfactory manner by either one or two of the dual M51 Mod 1 squibs. It will withstand the various environmental conditions to which it was subjected except for the vibration which injures the squib leads. A number of guillotines were manufactured identical to 1301005 except the material used was 2024-ST aluminum and incorporated a single M-78 squib. These units have been function tested three times with good success. (Author)
