Abstract : Results obtained from testing the synthetic rubber sheets initially submitted as a possible vibration isolator were poor. The tests showed a tendency for vibration amplification rather than the attenuation expected. Consequently, some thought was given to the problem and an O ring type structure with sufficient resilience was tested, demonstration very good damping qualities in the order of 50 to 98% isolation. However, the tests are by no means complete enough for productizing for missile use. Further data involving evaluation of various material characteristics versus mass, distribution and location of isolators must be obtained before a general design standard can be issued. The use of this method of vibration isolation can result in increased reliability and decreased cost of special parts.
