Abstract : The long wavelength part of the dispersion curves for a thin disc-shaped, rocksalt type crystal is calculated by means of an approximate model. It is found that for wavelengths of the same order as, or smaller than, the thickness of the crystal significant shifts in the frequencies of the optical branches occur. Absorption frequencies and oscillator strengths are calculated as a function of the thickness of the specimen and of the angle of incidence of the infrared radiation. It is found that such a crystal absorbs also at frequencies other than the usual transverse optical frequency. (Author)
