Abstract : The objective of this program is the development of a highly stable, compact, 1/4 watt L-band solid state radiosonde. A dual coaxial cavity oscillator gave a power output of 206 mW at 1680 MHz with an efficiency of 12.9%. A frequency change of +0.57 MHz, -0.23 MHz was measured over the -70 to +75 C temperature range. The oscillator had a pulling figure of 3.1 MHz but a Rieke diagram of the circuit indicated that a pulling figure of 1 MHz with a power output of 150 mW could be obtained by modifying the output circuit. Preliminary tests of a stripline oscillator with resonators in the base and emitter circuits showed a power output of 120mW at 9.5% efficiency with a 2.5 MHz pulling figure. The use of a compact voltage regulator reduced the frequency change of a stripline oscillator over a + or - 10% change in supply voltage from +3.6, -2.9 MHz to +0.13, -0.14 MHz. (Author)
