Abstract : The development of miniature probes for the measurement of stagnation and static pressure, stagnation temperature, and high heat-transfer rate in shock-driven facilities is described. A basic piezoelectric sensing unit is used in conjunction with different probes to measure the stagnation or static pressure over a pressure range of 0.02 to 100 psia. For temperature measurements a fast response thermocouple, which can be used to 3500 K at pressures above 400 psia, is described. Heat-transfer rate is obtained by means of a modified calorimeter heat-transfer gage. Basic concepts are presented, together with details of fabrication, calibration, the associated electronic circuitry, and test results obtained in shock-driven facilities. Author)
