Abstract : It is shown that striations in at least one flux-grown crystal (In2O3) are caused by temperature fluctuations of about 0.14 C during crystal growth. These fluctuations originate in the control action of the furnace. Insulation of the crucible reduces the intensity of the fluctuations in the crucible and the number of striations in the crystal.
