Abstract : A CP-667 Computer arithmetic chassis complement of monolithic integrated circuits were purchased from three vendors, Westinghouse, Motorola and Raytheon. The monolithic circuits have been functioning in the computer from 300 to 2600 hours without failure. The circuits have proven compatibility between vendors and are recommended for high performance digital computer applications. Three sets of sense amplifiers containing differential amplifiers from three vendors were delivered to Product Design to be tested in the CP-667 Computer. Performance and qualification testing were performed on the amplifier along with the present sense amplifier design. The data, combined with delivery problems, revealed several areas which should be further investigated before approved for computer use. The major areas of concern involve power dissipation and packaging standardization. It was also discovered that packaging efficiency could not be significantly improved by the thin film approach. The present design of the CP-667 sense amplifier is recommended for the computer at this time. Additional investigation was made in the areas of thin film circuits for logic applications and advanced techniques of thin film deposition, bonding, interconnection and packaging. (Author)
