Abstract : Diffusely reflected coherent light is experimentally investigated to determine the accuracy of available theoretical models in describing the reflection statistics. Negative-exponential statistics are found to hold if applied separately to each polarization component and if the receiver aperture is sufficiently small to avoid effects of aperture integration. The statistical theory is extended to explain experimentally observed discrepancies resulting from depolarization and aperture integration. (Author)
