Abstract : Three aspects of the problem of nonradiative processes in laser systems were investigated. The temperature dependence of the linewidth and lineshift of a no-phonon resonance line in CaF2:Tm2+ was studied. A temperature-independent linewidth due to a single-phonon emission was observed in CaF2:Dy2+ both by optical and paramagnetic resonance techniques, and was found to be the same. This is the first such observation. The linewidth was predicted quantitatively by deducing the orbit-lattice interaction coefficient from optical lineshifts caused by uniaxial strain. The temperature dependence of the far-infrared lattice absorption of the cubic fluoride hosts was carried out. (Author)
